Product Liability Act
■ A common name for 製造物責任法（平成六年法律第八十五号）, or "Product Liability Act".
The "PL" part of ＰＬ法 is short for "product liability", which is usually translated into Japanese as 製造物責任（せいぞうぶつせきにん）.
□ The text of the law is available in Japanese here and in English here.
GLOSSARY of INSURANCE TERMS defines product liability as "legal liability incurred by a manufacturer, merchant, or distributor because of injury or damage resulting from the use of its product." The use of the abbreviation "PL" for this legal term appears to be more common in Japan (and Korea, going by the number of hits) than in English speaking countries. Another Japanese law with an English-derived abbreviation is the ＤＶ法.
Neither ＰＬ教団 (きょうだん) (Church of Perfect Liberty, one of so-called 新宗教 （しんしゅうきょう) (new religion) cults, founded in 1924) nor ＰＬ学園 (がくえん) (educational institute run by ＰＬ教団, particularly famous for its highschool baseball team) has anything to do with ＰＬ法.
